Annie Get Your Gun in Concert – Theatr Clwyd
4 September 2025
Tip Top Productions have come bounding back to Theatr Clwyd with full force, bringing a concert version of Annie Get Your Gun to the newly renamed Theatr Moondance. Although this is no ordinary “in concert” as it comes with wonderful staging, fantastic choreography, brilliant projections and a whole lot more.
Steve Davies as Producer and Director has put together a highly professional show with a stellar cast and staging that makes you forget you are watching a concert version and allows you to immerse yourself into the full musical. The stage is set with chairs across the centre with a gap in the middle and cast bring on five microphone stands across the front section of the stage which ties in the concert vibe of the show but also helps when it comes to spacing and lighting. Such a clever but simple way to tie the piece together.
Then we have the wonderful 11-piece band, led by Tim Jones, across the back half of the stage. All of which are wearing checkered shirts to fit in with the style of the show. The band sound incredible, balanced perfectly to give the audience a wonderful sound but not as loud as to overpower the performers.
The lead cast are accompanied by an ensemble of singers who spend the majority of the show on the chairs that are set on stage, observing and interacting and providing a gorgeous sound with beautiful harmonies and depth to the songs.
In the titular role, Jade Pritchard brings Oakley to life with such professionalism, portraying the tomboyish character with an abundance of wit and charm, brilliant dance moves (especially a wonderful tap routine) and the most stunning vocals. From the moment Pritchard entered the stage, we know Annie Oakley is in safe hands. Gareth Hughes plays the ‘big swollen-headed stiff’ Frank Butler with a fantastic amount of attitude but with enough warmth and heart to make him likeable while delivering fantastic vocals.
Due to cast illness, stepping into the role of Buffalo Bill Cody is Calum Baillie, with just over a week of rehearsals absolutely shines on stage, opening the show alone, bursting through the curtains with confidence and assurance and delivering a fantastic performance and gorgeous vocals.
Nicola Day-Coiley shines as Dolly Tate, bringing an abundance of character and comedy, Hilary Wiseman is fantastic as Mrs Wilson, with attitude and humour galore. Katie Barclay plays a gorgeous Winnie Tate who is partnered perfectly with Adam Hodges as Tommy Keeler who deliver a fantastic ‘Who Do I Love, I Hope?’
Hannah Simpson gives us a great Charlotte Davenport, giving lots of attitude and sarcasm, with Jack Marsh bringing Pawnee Bill to life and John Lindop giving us a nice Sitting Bull.
And not forgetting the young members of the cast, Arlo Lucas, Grace Hill and Abigail Garner who gave assured, confident performances.
Choreography for the most is simple but looks very effective and clean, delivered well by the cast and brought to us by Rob Stevens who is also DSM on the production.
Costumes are fantastic, provided by Molly Limpet’s Theatrical Emporium and managed by Claire Thompson. Lighting is simple but effective, provided by Tom Webb, and sound by Tom Maurice is brilliant, balanced extremely well and we are able to hear every word.
Annie Get Your Gun in Concert is a fantastic night out, full of wonderful songs, a brilliant story told by a fantastic cast. A great evening of entertainment to be enjoyed by all.
