If you are considering auditioning for The Full Monty, this notice contains everything you need to know about the production, the characters, audition requirements, rehearsal expectations, and how to register your interest.
This is the play version (not the musical), adapted from the hit film. It contains strong language, adult themes, and partial nudity in a comedic, non-sexual context.
1. ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Synopsis
Set in Sheffield, The Full Monty follows six unemployed steelworkers who, facing hardship, decide to form an unlikely male strip act to raise money and reclaim their dignity. Their journey is hilarious, touching, and ultimately uplifting—exploring friendship, masculinity, pride, and survival.
The play features frank discussion of unemployment, relationships, body image, and mental health. The final scene involves comedic, choreographed nudity—always handled professionally, safely, and respectfully.

AUDITIONS
Audition Dates: SUNDAY 4 JANUARY at 10.30 am for MALE roles only
SUNDAY 18 JANUARY at 10.30 am for female roles- only for those who have already registered
* We’ve had an overwhelming response, so registration for the women’s roles is now closed.*
Venue: Tip Top Studio, Park Street, Wrexham LL11 2NN
Rehearsals: all will take place at Park Street Studio, Wrexham until we move to Theatr Clwyd on Tuesday 9th June 2026
7-week schedule, probably- though not set in stone
Sundays- afternoon but all day 2 weeks before production week
Mondays & Wednesdays (evenings) could be flexible
Rehearsals will begin on Sunday 19th April 2026
A detailed schedule will be issued once the cast is confirmed.
Performances:
THURSDAY 11 JUNE, FRIDAY 12 JUNE, SATURDAY 13 JUNE (2 on Saturday)
Cast must be fully available for tech week and all show dates.
3. CASTING BREAKDOWN
All roles require Northern accents. Age ranges flexible—casting based on energy, suitability and chemistry.
THE MEN
Gaz
Mid-30s to early 40s
Charismatic, cheeky, impulsive; a struggling father desperate to keep shared custody of his son. Emotional range essential.
Dave
30s–40s
Gaz’s best mate. Warm, funny, lacking self-confidence. A moving storyline around body image as he is overweight. Heart of the group.
Gerald
40s-60s
Ex-foreman hiding unemployment from his wife. Formal, proper, articulate, embarrassed and frustrated but likeable.
Lomper
20s–40s
Socially awkward, lonely, gentle soul. Beautifully understated humour. Later gains confidence.
Horse
40s–60s
Older man with hip trouble, but surprising rhythm. Dry wit, big personality
Guy
20s–40s
Not confident at first, sweet-natured, sensitive, good-looking; he develops confidence as the process evolves
SUPPORTING ROLES
Nathan
Teenage boy – Gaz’s son
Grounded, practical, and mature. A lovely father–son relationship at the show’s heart.
Jean
Dave’s wife – strong, warm, no-nonsense. Supportive but frustrated.
Mandy
Gaz’s ex – concerned, exasperated but not unkind. Wants stability for Nathan.
Gerald’s Wife (Linda)
Nice small role
Elegant, middle-class, unaware of Gerald’s unemployment.
Sharon, Bee, Female Ensemble which involve comedy roles, observing and reacting to the men’s journey.
Plus, a small male ensemble to play parts e.g. in the Job Centre, Job Club manager, Mandy’s live in boyfriend
4. AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
For the Six Men (Main Roles)
You will take part in:
Acting scenes on the day of the audition-scripts will be available
You are not required to remove clothing at audition.
Discussion of the final scene THE FULL MONTY will be handled sensitively and privately with shortlisted actors only. But once cast we will work together to deal delicately with the full strip which will have to happen in rehearsal at the end of the choreographed strip
For Nathan -Tip Top Productions has a current safeguarding policy and will provide a chaperone throughout the production journey
A short acting scene with Gaz
Ability to play natural, grounded emotion
Confidence working with adult humour (without participating in it)
For Female Roles
Short acting scene(s) exploring realistic domestic relationships
Good comic timing

Commitment to rehearsal process- if you have holidays booked then say so-if we can work around them we will.
6. FINAL SCENE NOTE- the moment for the Big Strip!
The "Full Monty" moment once on stage is designed with the choreographer including:
back-lighting
timed hats
precise blocking
modesty guarantees for all actors
It will be choreographed by Rob Stevens who works in the professional theatre as a choreographer, director and actor.
No one is ever exposed to audience or fellow cast except within strictly controlled parameters. Participation is voluntary and confidentially discussed.
