We know that in 2017 we said “Definitely the last time; and we said it the time before; and the time before that but really this is the last time …(well, possibly)… that we will present the award winning comedy “Bouncers” which has played to capacity audiences each time.

Bouncers was first performed in 1983 by the Hull Truck Theatre Company, and has undergone a number of enhancements since. It is bursting with imagination, wit and furious pace. The four actors’ ‘main’ characters are nightclub bouncers, but they portray over twenty different characters in rapid succession, all carefully observed but ultimately fast, slick and funny. The play presents the hilarious and serious sides of a night on the town – from brassy girls with attitude to unbridled lads on the pull preparing for the big night, from the pub to the dance floor and other points between.

The four characters (Lucky Eric, Judd, Ralph and Les) are broadly similar. Playing ages 20s to 50, but casting will depend as much on the rapport between the actors. Ideally, I would like a team who can be convincing as bouncers. Although the production will not be set in its original Yorkshire, I will require some accents as the script lends itself to a delivery in a regional accent, so I’ll be looking for Cheshire/Wrexham/Liverpool/Manchester. I would like as diverse a cast as possible so please feel free to audition for any part. Rapport and creating a strong ensemble piece will be key to our success.

Leaving aside these named parts, all the actors need to be able to portray multiple characters.

Auditions will be a simple, no-nonsense read-through; I don’t require you to learn anything but it’s ok if you prefer. What I need on the audition day is a demonstration that you can play the part (s) convincingly. For more information and to register your interest please contact:
